INTERVIEW WITH ISABELLA RUIZ

Hi, Isabella! I’m so happy to have you here and to talk about the release of your newest book, The Evanescent Hope! To start us off, would you mind sharing a bit about yourself and what you write?

Yes, of course! My name is Isabella Ruiz. I’m a bestselling teen author from Southern Alabama who writes to entertain and inspire with stories of hope in dark times.

What is the inspiration behind The Darkest War series and what prompted you to write it?

I started The Darkest War as a way to process some things I was dealing with, mainly grief from losing my father to cancer. I began writing it a month after his passing, and found it was very therapeutic. The next thing I knew, I fell in love with the world I’d created, and with the characters I had poured so much into, and I knew I had to finish this book, which just led to another, and another.

What is the most valuable thing writing this story has taught you?

Life can be difficult, but there is always some good in it to be found. In any case, we must keep on keeping on, and giving up isn't an option.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing The Evanescent Hope?

Two really important characters are upset at each other for the majority of the book, and I can't say that I loved writing that. I just wanted them to forgive each other and move on, to be honest.

What was the best part?

Exploring the emotions of the characters, and creating new ones. A lot of new characters are introduced in TEH, and one of them is hands down my favorite character I've ever written.

What do you hope readers glean from this story?

That forgiveness is important, and you don't have forever with the people you love, so you should make the most of it.

Which character do you resonate with the most, and why?

Rhory Alesarien. He’s a new character, and my favorite of all time, but the guy has been through quite a lot. Our personalities can be very similar at times, and he’s a slight self-insert, truthfully.

What is one you wish to achieve as an author?

I’d love to see my book in a chain bookstore, like Books a Million or Barnes & Noble. So far, it’s been in a local bookstore, a book box, and a library, though.

If you could go back in time to when you first started writing, what advice would you give to your younger self?

For the love of all things, please write your stories chronologically, Isabella.
